My inbox has been inundated with gift guides of late. Yours too? Don’t get me wrong: I love a gift guide. I’ve clicked through many. But I find that the items on offer often feel out of reach in some way … like they’re too highfalutin for anyone in my life. Maybe I need fancier friends!
Here are five things that I own that I would actually buy and gift. Possibly to myself.
Baggu socks. They’re really comfortable and feel luxurious, they’re like the Mercedes-Benz S Class of socks. (I’d call them a Lambo or Bugatti but from what I understand, those cars aren’t all that comfortable.) I only have one pair and save them for “special” occasions like 16 hour flights. Were I to get another, I’d go ecru.
The Dagne Dover Landon carry all, large
This is my personal item on airplanes. The amount of stuff it fits boggles the mind: laptop, magazines, books, chargers, why am I listing mundane things you know what to put in a travel bag. There are lots of side pockets to keep things organized … I’ve used them twice. I keep intending to tidy up my bag but it keeps fitting more stuff! The nerve.
Do not get the extra large if you intend to hook it over the handle of your roller board. It will probably make your roller board fall over. I initially ordered the extra large and asked Nikhil if he thought the airlines would let it qualify as a personal item and he laughed.
Supergoop unseen sunscreen, SPF 40
I reserve this sunscreen for my face. It’s clear, doesn’t burn your eyes, and melts into your skin in moments.
Comfortable, cool but not THAT cool, I initially got these for walking through the airport and now use them for “hiking” the fire road of Runyon Canyon and other jaunts that call for sneakers but not speciality ones. The Adidas site is perilously low on colorways, I like this beige number.
This is the G.O.A.T. of lip balms. Prove me wrong. The tube is the easiest delivery method but I still fux with the tins because I ordered 12 of them two years ago and hid them all over my house (not intentionally).
What I’m looking for: a stainless steel water bottle with a lid like the plastic one of this Lululemon. Have you seen her? Do please let me know.
And if you’re looking for a gift recommendation for a specific person in your life, ask me in the comments. I’m happy to help.
